59 BRIDON

High Performance and Non-Rotating Crane Ropes Bridon Crane ropes offer strength and superior quality providing our customers with considerable cost savings, in addition to the peace of mind of working with a world leader. When selecting a steel wire rope to suit a particular application - strength, rotation and fatigue resistance should be taken into consideration. Standard features you can expect from a Bridon crane rope. • Superior bending fatigue life when compared with conventional low rotation ropes - proven by laboratory testing and extensive field experience. • Excellent resistance to crushing and abrasion resulting from the overall compactness and robustness of the rope and the Dyform strands recommended when multi-layer spooling is involved. • Reduced elongation resulting from increased steel content and the Dyform process.

Applications Container Crane Crane Boom Hoist Crane Jib Hoist Crane Pendants Crane Trolley Excavators Gantry Cranes Hoist Rope Mobile Cranes Overhead Cranes Ship Ramps Shovels Skip Hoist Tower Cranes Truck Cranes

A selection of the many types of non-rotating high performance wire ropes available are shown here.

Care and Maintenance

06/07

Wire rope is tough and durable, however expendable and eventually reaches the end of its safe service life. Hoisting Equipment Specialists offers inspection and certification of wire rope slings to ensure any rope showing fatigue or sign of failure is removed from operation.

Superflex Wire Slings Superflex is a plaited galvanised wire rope comprising of 12 plys of high tensile (2070 MPa) steel cable in a 4 x 3 sinnet configuration. The plaited wire rope design offers exceptional rotation resistance characteristics. It is extremely flexible and very light and easy to handle. Superflex is extremely tolerant to abuse and has less tendency to kink and runs easily over capstans and sheaves.

Gacflex Wire Endless Slings “The Steel Sling with the Fabric Feel” Designed for suspension applications where metal or synthetic slings are required. With the trend in stage rigging to require metal slings for all overhead suspension, the problem has been how to accomplish this in the most efficient and cost effective way. Gacflex round slings are the answer to this problem. The load bearing member of a Gacflex round sling is made from steel galvanised aircraft cable wound in an endless configuration. The wire is encased in a black double wall polyester jacket. A unique inspection window allows for easy inspection in the core for broken wires and corrosion. The result is a highly flexible easy to use sling.

BENEFITS • Increased safety • Improved cut resistance • 400 Degree F temperature rating (205°C) • Higher working load compared to Round and Superflex slings • No hand injuries as there is no external ferrules and tails • Contours to load to grip securely • Wire core inspection window SAVES TIME • No backup rigging required • Superior flexibility makes rigging easy • Easy to read safety tag allows instant recognition SAVES MONEY • Lowers show to show freight costs • Gives you the slings you want to use (round slings) without buying the slings you would be required to use. (Wire /Chain)

KimFlex Slings & Grommets Heavy Lift slings up to 1420 metric tonnes KimFlex slings and KimFlex grommets were developed with the offshore industry, to provide the worlds best heavy lift slings and grommets. The multipart wire rope product is lighter and more flexible than conventional cable laid slings. They have safer terminations, allow for safer inspections and have a length tolerance far exceeding that of conventional cable laid slings. KimFlex Heavy lift slings and grommets are produced to the tightest length tolerances in the world. Produced by KTL Offshore, KTL Offshore continues to improve on this great design. This is done with customer feedback and a vigorous product development programme, which involves destruction testing of our slings and Crush Buster devices. Each KimFlex sling and KimFlex grommet is also manufactured to an individual Quality Control Plan (QCP) to ensure consistency and adherence to specifications.

Advantages of KimFlex Slings & Grommets over cable products Lighter in Weight: Reduces costs and deck weight of rigging.

Greater Flexibility: Easier to handle - reduces set and installation time.

Safer Terminations: Flemish eye splice, which eliminates hand splice slippage associated with cable laid slings.

Safer Inspection: Reduces inspection time and increases safety (no hidden core component).

06/07

Kimflex slings and KimFlex grommets is the preferred choice for heavy lift projects. KTL Offshore rigging facility manufactures KimFlex slings and Kimflex grommets of up to 18” (458mm) in diameter. These are used in the offshore heavy lift industry for all major types of lifting projects, including jacket lifts, upend lifts and platform installations.

The unique locking screw design combats the effects of wind-gallop a typical feature of outside applications. Once the wire rope length and tension have been set, tightening the lock screws firmly secures the internal locking wedges immovably in place. As well as preventing wear this feature allows the product to be used on both steel and fibre core wire rope constructions.

Hydraulic Swaging Machines WIROP Hydraulic Swaging Machines are very reliable and are also very silent, making work less stressful. The newly developed logic hydraulic system makes WIROP swagers more durable and require less maintenance. The PLC electric control system is very user-friendly to operate with a special design for C-type structure (one column body) which allows fast access for more efficient swaging. All of the bodies are made of one piece casting alloy steel. Equipped with Automatic /Manual selection, force setting device adjustable stroke and a footlevel switch.

Aluminum Ferrules WIROP aluminum ferrules are manufactured per EN 13411-3 (DIN 3093) from #2.5 to #60. For safety in fabrication and application our ferrules are made of strictly seamless material corresponding to the requirement of EN 13411-3 (DIN 3093) regarding material composition and mechanical properties.

Thimbles

06/07

A thimble can be installed inside the eye to preserve the natural shape of the eye and protect the cable from pinching and abrasion on the inside of the eye. The use of thimbles in loops is a recommended industry practice. The thimble prevents the load from coming into direct contact with the wires.
