The   Company   was   originally   founded   as   a   ship   chandling   company   in   1987   by   Messrs.   Osman  

Simsek   and   Hamza   Simsek   to   provide   food,   water   and   other   consumer   good   services   to   Izmir-­‐Aliaga   region.  Later,  the  activities  were  spread  to  ships  agency  services,  ship  repair  and  stevedoring.   In  2002,  ship  demolition  activity  was  started  in  Aliaga  Ship  Dismantling  Area  on  2  plots  leased  for   20   years   from   the   State.   In   2010,   ship   recycling   was   separated   from   other   activities   with   approximately   70.000   tons   of   dismantling   capacity   in   a   year   and   other   companies   were   founded   forming   Simsekler   Group  of  Companies.  The  Group  holds:   1.

Simsekler  Ship    Agency   One  of  the  partners  of  the  Company,  Mr.  Adem  Simsek,  is  the  president  of  the  Ship  Recyclers’

2. THE  LOCATION  &  CONTACT  INFORMATION  OF  THE  FACILITY       The   Ship   recycling   zone   was   established   by   a   goverment   decree   in   1976.   It   is   located   on   the   coast   of   Aegean   Sea,   northwest   of   Izmir.   The   facility   is   located   on   the   11th   &   12th   plots   of   the   ship   recycling  zone. The  facility  is  on  35  000  m2  of  land    with  a  100  m  long    shoreline.    5  000m2  of  this  land  is   allocated   for   office   buildings,   warehouses,   accommodation   facilities,   display   spaces   for   various   ship   parts  and  equipments,  and  2000  m2    green  area.  The  facility  has  “Business  Certificate’’        &  “the  opening   licence  of  the  first  class  non  sanitary  business”.

3. STATE  OF  READINESS  

                         Simsekler    ship  recycling  facility:   •

is   in   possession   of   all   relevant   permits,   approvals   and   licences   to   undertake   the   activities   associated  with  ship  recycling    



has  management  and  work  force  with  prior  experience  in  ship  recycling    



has  adequate  insurance  to  cover  health  and  safety  liabilities  and  environmental  remediation      in   compliance      with  Turkish  legislation;    



is   a   member   of   the   Ship   Recyclers’   Association   of   Turkey   .   The     Association   has   a   “Hazardous   Waste   Removal   License”   issued   by   the   Ministry   of   Environment   and   performs   identification,   removal   and   temporary   storage   of   Hazardous   Wastes   through   its   Waste   Management   Centre.   The  Association  works  for  and  on  behalf  of  its  members    



can   identify   the     contractors’   waste   management   companies,   asbestos   removal   and   disposal   companies  and  provide  evidence  of  their  licences,  approvals,  permits;     Is  ready  to  provide  a  list  of  hazardous  materials  it  is  capable  of  handling,  including  related  details   of  the  final  disposal  facilities  during  the    preparation  of  ship  recycling  plan;

is   declaring   that   the   company   and   any   of   its   contractors   involved   in   ship   recycling       processes   were  not  subjected  to  any  fines,  notices  from  regulatory  entities  in  the  last  five  years;  



presents   a   formal   and   official  ‘Recycled’  certificate  validated  by  the  Harbour  Master  of   Aliaga,   Izmir,  Turkey,  when  dismantling  is  completed;  



The  facility  prepare  required  documants  &  procedures  in  order  to  prevent    air,  sea  and  ground   pollution  where  ship  recycling  activities  are  taken.

4. SHIP  RECYCLING    METHOD     There  are  four  ship  recycling  methods  defined  by  IMO,  Turkey  employs  “Landing”  and  securing   the   vessel   on   a   slipway   method.   The   tidal   level   is   between     25   –   30   centimeters     during   a   year   in   Aliaga.

                         Landing  Method  

    When  the  ship  is  landed  at  the  yard,  even  if  it  is  10  –  15  metres  away  from  the  shoreline,  there   are  2  jetties  (15m)  alongside  the  ships  where  the  shore  cranes  can  reach  as  far  as  the  midships.  All  the   materials,  large  and  small,  removed  from  the  ship  are  lowered  on  the  rebarred  concrete  layer  beyond   the  drain  channel  in  order  protect  the  soil  and  the  sea  from  polluting  agents  falling  from  these  pieces.      

                                                                   

 

   

  Şimşekler  Ship  Rycling  LDT.  has  licenced  with  Ship  Breaker  Authority  Certificate,  Permission  of   the  ship  breaking,  Certificate  of  Business,  Openning  Licence  of  the  first  class  non  sanitary  business,  Ship   Rycling  Permit  given  by  Ministry  of  Environment  and  Foresy  of  Republic  of  Turkey.     Company  also  has  TUV  Incert  Group  of  TUV  Saarland  Certificate  #  12-­‐QEO-­‐0802001  -­‐  TIC     ISO  9001:2008   ISO  14001:2004   BS  OHSAS  18001:2007     Şimşekler  Ship  Rycling  LTD.  is  also  proud  to  have  been  contracted  for  the  rycling  of  the     Destroyer  ‘’LUTJENS’’,  Submarine  Pressure  Test  Dock,  and  U22,  U29  Submarines  with  VEBEG  GMBH  as   trust  company  of  the  Federal  Republic  of  Germany.  Company  has  close  relations  with  Tirrenia  Di   Navigazzione  SPA  in  ITALY  and  has  bought  three  fast  ferries  named  Scatto,  Taurus,  and  Capricorn  for   dismantling.   Şimşekler  has  dismantled  high  quality  and  profile  vessels  in  its  ship  yard  since  establisment.   Below  tables  represents  the  last  four  years  refferences.
