to a new school year! This sheet will provide you with information about the RHS Parent Teacher Student Association and becoming a member of this terrific organization. Membership fees will support many activities at RHS, including staff appreciation projects, student directory publications, classroom volunteer requests, and student enrichments. RHS PTSA members have also volunteered hundreds of hours for other various school-based projects and events. , fill out the Membership Form on the reverse side and return it to the RHS main office. are held five times a year in the RHS Media Center, alternating between daytimes and evenings. Meetings allow for open dialogue and updates are provided by RHS Principal Wendy Zdeb, Student Council members, counselors, and many others. If your schedule doesn’t allow you to attend, the PTSA emails minutes to all members, as well as posts them and other pertinent information on our website at www.rochester.k12.mi.us/rochester under PTSA in the menu. : Parents can volunteer by working with any of the following committees. (Those wishing to serve as a chairperson must be a RHS PTSA member.) Indicate on the Membership Form any committee(s) you’d like to participate in. • • •

Coat Check Committee



Organizes, sets up, and maintains the coat check for school dances. Schedules volunteers to assist for each dance. One representative attends District Dialogue meetings held every other month at the Administration Building with the Superintendent. Provides reports from each meeting to the general membership.

Ensures one member participates in any Health, Safety, and Welfare meetings held by the PTA Council. Provides reports to the general membership on a monthly basis.

Organizes volunteers to provide food and serve at the annual staff “Welcome Back” breakfast and the holiday luncheon, and also at the Teacher Appreciation luncheon to provide dessert. Assists in getting volunteers to help provide food and servers for the Senior breakfast. Attends PTA Council Legislative Committee meetings to learn of legislative issues concerning parents and students and provides reports when legislative issues are active. Promotes membership in the PTSA through a variety of means: parent newsletter announcements, attendance at school events, notices in staff mailboxes, and other means approved by the board. Tracks membership names and addresses. Receives dues to turn in to treasurer.

Coordinates the bi-monthly newsletter mailing to subscribing members.

PAC Representative



Attends the Parent Advisory Committee meetings held once a month and reports back to the PTSA.

Public Relations Committee



Assists with marketing PTSA events and school events to the community.

Oversees the school-wide Reflections Contest. Includes distributing information for the contest kick-off, contest rules, and policies. Plans for student recognition at a PTSA meeting of students who place and provides refreshments. Assists with District reception for students.

Student Directory Committee

Edits and formats student information for the annual student directory. Computer skills needed. Coordinates printing, oversees sales, collects all sales money received, and reconciles with treasurer.

Volunteer Coordinator

• •

Serves as the parent-staff liaison to identify volunteer needs at RHS. Contacts volunteers needed to assist at various functions and events.

Webpage Coordinator



Posts and oversees the PTSA web page on the school web site, such as meeting minutes, articles, lists of awards given, etc. Training provided, but background knowledge helpful. Assists with touring new families around Rochester High School and distributing an information packet. Maintains contact with a new family during the students’ first semester at RHS.
