CONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE You are eligible for education leading to both a lower and a higher university degree in the following situations: You have passed the Finnish matriculation examination referred to in the National matriculation examination act (672/2005); You have been awarded vocational qualification upon completion of at least three years of education or corresponding prior studies; You have a vocational upper secondary qualification, a further vocational qualification, or a specialist vocational qualification defined in the vocational adult education and training act (631/1998) or a corresponding prior qualification; or You have a foreign degree or qualification that makes you eligible for higher education in the awarding country; or The Academy otherwise deems you to have sufficient knowledge and skills for the studies. (The Universities Act, Section 37). You are eligible for education leading only to the higher university degree if you have completed one of the following: an applicable lower university degree; an applicable polytechnic degree; or an applicable education completed abroad which in the awarding country gives eligibility for corresponding higher education

For Sibelius Academy, an applicable qualification is a qualification in music. The following exceptions to this rule apply: In the case of Music Education, a degree in education may also be considered an applicable degree if the applicant has also completed enough studies in music. As part of his or her degree or as supplementary studies, the applicant must have completed pedagogical teaching courses (worth at least 60 ECTS credits/35 credit units), as referred to in the Decree on the Qualification Requirements for Teaching Personnel, or he or she must have gained access to a pedagogical teaching programme at a university or a university of applied sciences/polytechnic. In order to receive the study place offered, the applicant must deliver a copy of the certificate of his/her existing degree so that it reaches the Sibelius Academy Admissions Office 29.7.2014 16.15 (Finnish time) at the latest. If the degree is not Finnish, the applicant shall enclose a clarification of the status of that degree in the university system in the awarding country either in the Finnish, Swedish or English language. The copies of the certificates and the clarification must reach the Admissions Office within the time prescribed. An applicant accepted conditionally, who fails to deliver the copy of the certificate and, for a nonFinnish degree, the required clarification within the time prescribed, will lose his/her conditional study place at the Sibelius Academy. CONFIRMING THE STUDY PLACE To keep their right to enrol in the degree programme, the accepted applicants must fill in and deliver a confirmation form to the Sibelius Academy Admissions Office by 29.7.2014 16.15 (Finnish time) at the latest. HOW TO GET FEEDBACK AND APPEAL Applicants are entitled to information on how the selection criteria have been applied in their particular case. Information can be gained from the contact persons listed on Sibelius Academy web pages http://www.siba.fi/en//studies/apply-degree-student An applicant who is dissatisfied with the results can lodge a complaint within fourteen (14) days of the announcement (Universities Act, section 82, paragraph 1). Submittal of an appeal The appeal must be addressed to the Sibelius Academy. The appeal must be in writing and it must be submitted to the Sibelius Academy Registry by hand, email, or regular mail. The appeal must arrive at the Registry by 3:00 p.m. on the last day of the appeal period, at the latest. The sender is responsible for the submittal of the appeal.
