The Allora Medical Services Task Force (ATF) last night put into place an Action Plan designed to see a GP established in Allora. The ATF was formed after a meeting of 600 residents concerned with the lack of medical services in the town, at the Allora Hall some 2 weeks ago ATF Chair, local pharmacist John Constable, said the first priority is to see what needs to be done to the old Allora Council offices in Herbert Street. “We will be talking to a specialist architect as soon as possible to determine the amount of work needed, and what modifications are needed. We hope to have the report back from him by the end of the month.” “We will also be talking to a number of GPs who may be interested in establishing a practice here, if we can get them a suitable building.” “Another key item in our Action Plan will be to ask SDRC to include funds in next year’s Budget to complete the necessary renovations.” The ATF is comprised of local community members, John Constable, Roy Smith, David Brown, Glynn Rees, Ann Balmain and David Dwan, together with SDRC Councillors Denise Ingram, Jo McNally and Neil Meiklejohn. Executive Officer for the ATF is SDRC’s Economic Development Officer, John Randall. For further information, please contact the Executive Officer Allora Medical Services Task Force, John Randall on 4661 7332.

4 — THE ALLORA ADVERTISER … THURSDAY, 8th APRIL 2010

A peculiar episode which resulted in a prominent business man being victimised, and another well known resident being deprived, for the time being, of his horse, saddle and bridle, occurred in Allora on Monday last. It appears a stranger of sufficiently reputable appearance, called on Mr. Joseph Sharpe and ordered timber to the value of £5/1/3. He tendered a cheque for £8/10/0 receiving change to the value of £3/8/9. The cheque was drawn on an Allora bank and on being presented, was refused payment, the signature being unknown. On this being brought to his notice, the would-be speculator in timber apologised profusely, and immediately altered the cheque as to make it payable in a Clifton bank. Thereafter without wasting any further valuable time he annexed a pony, saddle and bridle, the property of Mr. Garrett O’Neill. The pony, on which two of the O’Neill children were accustomed to ride to school, was only a small 12 hands pony, but its progress over the hills and far away was most credible to its powers of locomotion. The police were informed and acted with commendable promptitude. Sgt. Kelly traced the pony and rider to Pilton, and taking advantage of the telephone recently connected to Pilton, contacted Gatton. Advice was received that the fugitive had passed through Gatton previous to the call. However on Thursday, word came of an arrest made near Oxley, and a man and pony being held in custody there. The necessary warrants have been sent and further developments may be expected shortly. Please visit our web site www.allora-and-district-historical-society-inc.com
